Editorial Autumn 2018

Sitting here in shorts and sandals writing this editorial it seems very odd to note that it is the Autumn edition! I expect by the time you are quickly scanning over it to get to the interesting stuff inside the weather will have changed.

Congratulation to Andrew Auld, of the loaf, for his wonderful marathon cycle ride to raise money for the prostrate cancer charity; and to his brother Rob who joined him. They raised over £12,000. Fuller details of this are inside the magazine.

The village fête enjoyed fantastic weather and was very well attended. Many thanks must go to the fête committee who not only work flat out on the day but also throughout the year raising funds to enable the event to take place.

A last ditch plea for any information on those who served during WW1. The current Roll of Honour in the Glebe has a few errors and quite a few omissions. We have tracked down more men who ought to have been on the Roll but for various reasons were not. We also have obtained many more photographs of the men. However, a few of the names still have no known regimental details which is most frustrating. Their names are shown inside the magazine with a request for any known information. There will be a new replacement Roll in place by November 2018 to mark the centenary of the war ending. I anticipate that this will be the final printing and wish it to be as complete as possible. So please if anyone has information on any of the men email me. All the names of those who served are on my website www.crichparish.co.uk. Any information before October 1st can be included on the Roll but after that only the website can be amended. The research will continue into the future with all new data going on the web memorial.

Good news in that the shop beside the Baptist Chapel has a new venture starting there. We wish Gail Saxton every success.

It is always gratifying to receive sound advice. My new ointment states I must keep away from naked flames.
