Crich Parish Well Dressings

On Saturday 8th July, we had a great well dressing celebration on Crich Market Place in blazing hot sunshine! The schools and Fritchley OAP’s had their own well blessings on Friday 7th July.

The event was well attended by the whole community and people visiting the area. On Saturday we were also joined by Fritchley Choir, Whatstandwell Community Choir and a trio of Heage Windmiller Clog Dancers, all joining together for a fantastic combined celebration.

This year’s well dressing theme was Saints and Legends. Each group chose their own individual composition based around this theme. All the well dressings were fantastic!

Even though there are only five people on the organising team, we decided to create a Well Dressing Trail across Crich parish. Groups from Fritchley, Crich, Crich Carr and Whatstandwell were invited to participate. We were staggered when the following eleven groups accepted the invitation: Crich Carr C of E Primary School; Crich Pre-School; Crich Infant C of E School; Fritchley C of E School; Horticultural Society; Tramway Village; St. Mary’s Church; Ram Furniture; Crich Scouts; Crich Glebe Field DayCare and Fritchley OAP’s group.

Thanks goes out to everyone who made this such a successful event; St Mary’s Church for leading the blessings, local businesses, those who provided or loaned equipment, the entertainers, the generosity of all who bought trail maps and those who gave to our nominated charity (Crich Glebe Field DayCare) and finally a special thanks to the Parish Council and the Tramway Village who continue to support us year on year.

Since reviving the well dressings in 2015 we hope to continue well into the future (did you like the pun?). Our aim is for all ages of the community to work together, supporting each other and keeping an age old tradition alive whilst meeting people and having fun !

If anyone feels like joining the team, there are small and larger jobs, depending on the time you can give. You don’t have to be a skilled Well Dresser!!! Please contact (note the underscore after wilkie).
