DAY CARE SERVICE

On the 27th September 1997 the centre was opened and the Day Care Service was launched. Initially being available for two days a week it was looked after by care co-ordinators Sue Paul and Martha Gratton. Soon the centre was offering day care four times a week which continued for many years, However, recently this has been reduced to three times due to financial cut backs.

Over the past twenty-one years this service has looked after 185 people and currently have twenty-seven attending a total of forty times a week between them. We have celebrated many milestone birthdays including a 100th. Just this year we have had one 80th, two 90th's and a 95th.

There have been bus trips to Granada Studios, Carsington Reservoir, The Peak Village shopping outlet, Christmas shopping at Dobbies Garden Centre, boat trips on the River Trent to name a few. This year cake sales and raffles have provided funding for trips to Matlock Bath and Kirkby in Ashfield for lunch.

We have had entertainment from various singers and even a magician. Themed days to celebrate St Valentine, St George, St Andrew and St Patrick. The Queen’s birthday warranted a special party. On one occasion we brought the seaside inside for the day. The children from Crich C of E Infant School pay us a visit at Christmas and perform the songs from their pantomime.

We have found a few artists amongst our service users recently so the past two years they have helped decorate a well dressing for the village fête in July. Finally, I couldn’t finish off without mentioning a few of the past staff. Many of you may know Vicky, who was the Day Care Manageress for thirteen years and remember Beryl and Joan. Special thanks to our volunteers Wendy and Val.

On behalf of all the staff here may we wish you all a good Christmas and prosperous New Year.
