“From Log Cabin to White House”


It is the story of James Abraham Garfield 20th President of the United States, inside the book is a hand written message the inscription reads:


To Lizzie Leam, Post -mistress, Fritchley, from Florence Nightingale, Hearty good wishes, and may we all, each in our own means, imitate the great and good man who served god.


dated October 1882.


Florence Nightingale was then 62, the recipient of the book, was later to become Mrs J Lynam and mother of the present sub post mistress, Miss Annie Lynam, who took over the post office about 1937.
