In St Marys Church, to the left of the main pulpit, is a memorial window to Reverend Chawner, who was vicar of Crich for twenty years between 1855 and 1875.
The subscriptions for this memorial were organised by Dr Christopher Blencowe Noble Dunn who was the parish doctor. He was not only the local doctor but was the medical officer for the Belper area, and the personal physician of Florence Nightingale when she was in residence at Lea Hurst. Florence was also a friend of Dr Dunn and wrote many letters to him. In one of her letters reference is made to the assistance she gave in finding a suitable firm to create the memorial window.

My dear Sir
I have enquired as you desired for Stained Glass Manufacturers about a Window for Crich Church in memory of Mr Chawner.
is one recommended.
If you would like to send subject required size of window & about the sum to be expended Mrs Shore Smith would gladly go to Messrs Morris & see what could be done both as to beauty & economy.
May all New Years blessings be showered upon you & yours.
ever yours faithfully
C.B.N. Dunn Esq
