Autumnal Activities in the Nursery

The girls pick the apples to go into the apple crumbleOur Nursery and Reception children in our Hardwick class have had great fun exploring seasonal changes and thinking about how we know that it is autumn. We only had to look outside to see all the leaves that have been falling from the trees. We really enjoyed ‘running like the wind’ through the leaves and collecting them for our autumn display. We had such fun and feel very lucky to be able to learn in such beautiful surroundings! Hardwick class had a go at making a delicious apple crumble. We picked the apples from our own apple tree. You really can’t get much fresher than that!

The children learned how to use tools safely when chopping the apples and about hygiene, too. Our new pupils have really enjoyed their first Baking Betty Bake Off Session.

Charity Coffee and Cake

We had another successful charity fundraising afternoon back in October, as we took part in Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer. Thank you to all the children and their families and friends who baked cakes, donated and attended our coffee and cake afternoon. You helped us to raise a fantastic £223.23 for the Macmillan Cancer Care charity.

Competition Champions!

Our Year 5/6 football team was the overall winner in the Amber Valley School Sports Parnership football competition ealier this term. The talented boys beat nine other teams to win the tournament. Well done to all who played, we are so proud of you! You played brilliantly, displaying great teamwork and support for each other.

Big thanks, too, to all who attended in the rain to spur them on. Thanks also to all who donated their Sainsbury’s ‘Active Kids’ vouchers to the school, as they enabled us to buy the new sports kit, being modelled by our champions in the photograph overleaf.

At the time of going to press, the team was preparing to play in the county finals!

Well done to the Year 5/6 football team which won the Amber Valley School Partnership football competition

Song for Derbyshire

Wingfield Class at Crich Tramway Village singing a 'Song for Derbyshire'Our Year 3s and 4s in Wingfield class had a wonderful experience at Crich Tramway Village in October. They were filmed, along with Crich Junior School pupils, singing a ‘Song for Derbyshire’ as part of a Derbyshire Music Partnership project. Lots of schools were filmed in various locations around Derbyshire singing a song called ‘Best that you can be’, the lyrics for which were written with the help of children from the participating Derbyshire schools. It celebrates the beautiful county that we all live in. We can’t wait to see the final DVD.

Fritchley Community Choir

Do you like to sing? Did you know that a person weighing 150 pounds will burn approximately 100 calories singing for an hour while sitting down? Stand up and the calories burned increase to 140! Fritchley Community Choir is a friendly group of all ages. We meet every Wednesday, 6:30pm-7:30pm, in the school hall and are a collective of Fritchley and Crich residents, plus members of school staff and pupils. We sing many traditional and modern songs and have performed for a variety of audiences at numerous events. The choir is run by Linda Daughton, who is also a member of Crich Brass Band and does a marvellous job of getting us all singing in tune!! If you enjoy singing, come along and join us for a taster session any Wednesday during term time. We welcome men, women, boys and girls of any age and vocal range, so see you there!
