In September we welcomed our new starters, who have all settled well and continue to enjoy playing, learning and growing with our older children. Young children have a natural desire to learn, explore and question as they play. Take their natural curiosity, add a dose of amazing imagination and off we go on some amazing journeys together ... flying to the moon, making a scarecrow, watching the autumn leaves fall, exploring slime, making mud milkshakes, searching for dragons and cooking tea for the dinosaurs ... to name but a few.

looks like two of the children have already found a couple of Derbyshire RocksWe usually follow the children’s own interests but during the autumn term one of our parents suggested we get involved in Derbyshire Rocks by creating our very own Crich Pre-school Rocks. Several parents came in to help the children paint the rocks and the children then hid them around the village. We have had many photos posted to our Facebook page of children and dogs who have found our rocks on their travels around Crich; if you happen to come across one please upload a photo and re-hide the rock for others to find.

So far, the introduction of 30 hours of free childcare for eligible families has gone smoothly for us and we are pleased to report that we are now open all day everyday (Mon–Fri) during term time.

We are so grateful to the many businesses and community groups who support our preschool. Their contributions make a real difference to the variety and quality of learning experiences we can offer. During the summer break students from the Prince’s Trust, in conjunction with Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, built us a fabulous shelter in our outdoor play area to provide our children with shade and protection from inclement weather conditions. They also made us a new water wall and an enchanted dolls’ house, as well as providing us with a child-sized bench, a storage unit and a selection of plants.

We would also like to thank all the parents who offer their support, with a special thank you going to Joe who made us a fantastic mud kitchen earlier in the year. Harron Homes have kindly provided us with puddle suits and high visibility vests for all of the children. These will help to keep the children warm and dry when playing outside (particularly those who simply can’t resist trying to climb into the water tray), and now that we have appropriate clothing we look forward to getting out and about in the local community more. You will certainly see (and hear) us coming!

Crich Pre-school also has an amazing new website thanks to the hard work of Claire Ganthony, one of our trustees. Claire has never done anything like this before and has taught herself to build a website. Well done Claire! We are always keen to promote lifelong learning and it is great to see both adults and children learning new skills at
pre-school. To have a look visit www.crichpreschool.com.

Anybody want any building work done?  A lot of care is needed when painting the Derbyshire Rocks
