New Approach to Maths – Singapore Style!

the Singapore Style Mastery approach to mathematics has recently been introducedOur maths curriculum has been enhanced by introducing the Singapore Style Mastery approach to mathematics, which helps pupils develop a deep, long-term and adaptable understanding of maths.

We have also recently invested in the “Maths - No Problem” scheme, which uses quality text books and workbooks that are endorsed by the Department for Education, NCETM and OFSTED.

It introduces new concepts using Bruner’s Concrete Pictorial Abstract (CPA) approach, making our maths lessons very hands-on and practical.

Numicon, a special multi-sensory approach to teaching maths, has been purchased to help our younger children with this approach, and to better understand the connections between numbers.

Our Nursery goes from Strength
to Strength

Our School now provides complete wrap around care for children aged 3 – 11 years from 7.30am until 6pm. We offer a unique family environment for Nursery activities, properly integrated into the life of the school, but giving plenty of opportunity for quiet times too!

The 30 hours of free nursery funding is working well and parents are able to be fully flexible as to when they would like to use their funding, making our facilities as parent friendly as they are child friendly!

Our Infant Nativity Performance

The pupils put on a fantastic performance of The Angry Inn KeepersOur Infants walked up to St Mary’s Church in Crich, together with the rest of the school, on a beautiful sunny winter’s day in December. They put on a fantastic performance of “The Angry Inn Keepers”, a fresh twist on the classic nativity story. Our Nursery children participated in the performance which was greatly enjoyed by all who attended. The Friends of Crich Carr were on hand afterwards with their teapots and cakes to prolong the festivities until home time.

Juniors Perform “The Vikings” Play

Many visitors from outside school were hugely impressed by their polished and convincing performance.Families and members of the community were entertained with songs and humour, with lots of audience participation!
